I NEED a Vacation!

Yes, I used the word "need."

Don't believe me?

After a little more than a week on the job editing one of New York's most "prominent" daily publications, I've had to sustain the following:

13-hour days
6-day workweeks
With 3-hour commutes
5 missed lunches
7 missed dinners, yet 4 pounds gained (Ugh!)
3 cancelled dates
1 very sore neck
3 nightmares in my sleep
1 lost smartphone
1 lost contact lens
1 almost asthma attack
1 missed bus to work (Grr!)
1 overgrown lawn at home, of about 4 inches
1 former/current boss telling me to STFU
3 frustrated reporters ("Back down!")
2 sprints for the train that recalled my days on the high school track team
3 missed deadlines
1 resume in the back pocket
2 muttered curse words (sorry!)
10 cries out to Jesus in Heaven
(Thankfully, I have numerous supportive friends and colleagues)

AND
Zero time for wanderlust
Zero time for Tweeting with my travel-gal pals

What's a woman to do? Given the above, it's clear I won't be traveling any time soon. I'm thankful for employment, though it's not exactly the lifestyle I envisioned for myself. I'm sitting tight--for now. Perhaps I'll take the advice of Kelly over at travellious and plan a vacay, even though I know I have no time to take it.

Have you ever felt as if you "needed" a vacay? Is my desire to head to a beach "running away"? Am I am sleep-deprived whiner? Maybe a break from the wanderlust is a good thing.

Oh, wow. I'm sorry work is taking over your life. As I just started the exam period, I can empathize a very little bit (with the stress part; not with the crazy colleagues). Good luck holding it together.

And, for what it's worth, I think you should plan that vacation. It'll remind you why you're working.

I gotta say I have no idea how you get out of bed to work that hard, I'd have chucked it in after day 1.

Still when you do travel, it will be the sweetest reward for all the hard work.
