On the Freeway of Love? A Trip to Find a Husband

Julia Yarbough's been having a bit of trouble in the man department. Tired of being single, she is taking matters into her own hands--with her best friend in tow.

Julia, 44, and BFF Silva are hitting the road, on a mission to find Julia a husband.

When I first heard about Julia's quest to find a man, I thought it reeked of, er, desperation. But then I read her bio. It seems Julia, a former NBC-TV anchor who's educated, well-traveled and an attractive sister, hadn't had a real date in four years. Four years.

An outdoorswoman and a travel writer, it wasn't like she was sitting around waiting for a man. If she was, she won't be now, since she's decided to travel until she finds a man or until the money runs out, whichever comes first.

It's not the journey I would take to love, but it's an interesting one, to say the least.

But, it's a good way to see the Great American Outdoors via her Nissan X-Terra, heading west toward California. So far, the two have made one detour, to New York where the two have appeared on the Today show. Gimmicky?

They're also documenting the trip on their Facebook page and blog.

I have to admit that I've met more men traveling than standing still. Of course, when I'm home, I'm working. I wish her the best.

What are your thoughts?

This is very interesting! I would actually like to do the same thing. I think when we travel, we are less inhibited and we tend to be open to more people. I have dated waaaay more outside of the U.S than in the U.S....i know it's pretty pitiful huh...

Fascinating!

I once had a friend who had her best dating experiences after she signed up for online dating sites -- not because she was meeting men online (the sites never did deliver) but because she'd opened her mind to the idea of meeting all kinds of men in all kinds of circumstances.

This woman's quest seems like it would have a similar result. It'll be interesting to see if she succeeds on her trip.

I think this is a great idea. If you caouldn't find a job in your city, you'd move to one that had more opportunity sowhy not for a husband? The only thing is, I think she'd have even more options if she included travels outside the U.S.

I hope this isn't me in a couple of years.

I'm with FlyGirl, she'd had WAY more options and in my experience, more interesting and promising encounters abroad which could lead to what she's longing for. I haven't had a date with an American man in years but as soon as I travel anywhere abroad, my schedule stays full. Ok? LOL! I'm currently living in Asia and loving it.
