Perhaps equally beautiful but not as large is Córdoba, Seville's neighbor 1.5 hours to the northeast.
Visiting there, you get a sense of what things used to be--a place where Muslims, Jews and Christians worked and lived side by side. The former arts center was also the capital of western Islam at one point--La Mezquita, the Grand Mosque, illustrates the town's former standing among European cities. Some of its flourishes reflect its more recent influence--Christianity. it's worth the extra few euros to go inside.
Afterward, enjoy Córdoba by wandering up and down its cobblestone streets and popping your head into nooks and crannies to enjoy a wealth of treasures.

Stunning pix! I've head about Cordoba's lovely architecture and it really looks well preserved.
