I went to Spain with a deep desire to see a bullfight. (Weird for a pescatarian, right?) After my friends told me they kill the bull after each match, I told myself: "I'll just close my eyes and turn my head at the appropriate time. I can't not come to Spain without seeing a fight."
Actually, while bullfighting is a staple in southern Spain, in cities north and east like Barcelona, the sport is actually frowned on. I get it, but somehow it's all kinda intriguing. In Andalusia, the image of the bull is everwhere, particularly at Real Maestranza, the bullfighting museum in Seville, where you can learn all about the sport and its players.
In Seville, there's also a museum that pays tribute to and promotes the art form of flamenco dancing. The staccato steps are a staple of evening entertainment throughout Madrid and Andalusia. Looking for a performance? They aren't hard to find. After seeing a night performance at the museum, I seriously considered buying a ruffled dress and striking a pose.
